The heights parse accepts, m above mean sea level. The lowest land, by the Dead Sea, lies a
little over 400 m below sea level, and the highest, Everest’s summit, 8,849 m above it; the
margins leave room for the DEM’s own errors. A height outside them is a broken answer, such as
a 16-bit no-data value.
